The Government of India has instructed the Ministry of Education to start a 100-day reading campaign from Kindergarten to Std-8 from 12020. A 100-day reading campaign will be started for all the children studying in Std. 1 to 8 in all the schools. A guideline has been prepared for this reading campaign which is attached with this. As per the reference letter of the Government of India regarding this matter and also to give necessary instructions to all the schools in the district under your jurisdiction to take action as per this guideline.
The Department of School Education and Literacy has launched a National Mission on 5th July 2021 called Nipun Bharat, a basic reading, writing and arithmetic mission, the main purpose of which is to cover the learning needs of children in the age group of 6 to 8 years. All future education for the child is the basis of basic education established by various international research. The child remains unprepared for the difficulties of the post-standard three course due to lack of basic skills capable of performing basic mathematical operations for reading and writing with understanding. The National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes that the acquisition of early skills should be a top priority. Madhumati says that if the most basic education to be seen i.e. reading, writing and arithmetic at the basic level is not achieved first then the rest of this policy will be largely missed for most of our students. Various studies in India, including the National Achievement Survey, show that many children cannot read even simple paragraphs but the curriculum and associated textbooks are designed with the expectation that children will acquire A grade and acquire these skills. The National Reading Campaign is being launched so that every child can learn to read and then read to learn.
