With petrol-diesel prices soaring, news of relief is coming for those who want to convert their cars to CNG. The central government has prepared a draft for BS6 vehicles. Not only that but BS6 category vehicles will also be allowed to install CNG kits from the retrofit market outside the company.

Filling up with expensive petrol will bring relief

The central government had banned the use of CNG kits in the retrofit market in the BS6 vehicle category from April 2020. Only Kamobi-fitted CNG cars are being allowed. However, after lengthy submissions, the central government is now reconsidering the decision. The government had in April 2020 banned BS6 vehicles from installing CNG kits in the open market. About 60,000 petrol cars have been sold. Many of them want to convert their cars to CNG but are unable to do so due to restrictions and are forced to fill up with expensive petrol. There is a difference of one lakh to one and a half lakh rupees in the price of a fitted CNG car and petrol of the same company. It is completed in the open market at a price of less than 60 thousand only. Experts believe that open market CNG has been banned in BS6 vehicles.

The process is still pending for approval

The draft will be presented to a public expert after the central government decides to convert CN6 vehicles from the open market to CNG. A final notification will be issued after their opinion. The vehicle will be sent to testing agencies CRAI and iCat. CNG kits may be allowed in the market.
